SUMMARY:War Hero Alexander Hamilton's Legacy and D.A.R.
DESCRIPTION:Founding Father Alexander Hamilton was a solution seeker and he usually found what he was searching for.  As a homeless\, parentless\, 12-year old boy on an isolated Caribbean island\, he “wished there was a war” thinking that it  would give him the opportunity to be somebody in the world.  Through hard work\, providential contacts\, and personal grit\, he migrated to the United States of America and rose up to be the right-hand-man for General George Washington. He also became a Revolutionary War Hero\, leading the final victorious battle over the British at Yorktown. \nAfter the war\, President Washington appointed Hamilton as America’s first Treasury Secretary\, responsible for creating what many believe eventually became the best economic system in the world. \n\nWhen states needed to pay their fair share in order for the Union to survive\, Hamilton devised a tax system which provided the foundation for the IRS.\nWhen he needed to stop sea smugglers from evading taxation\, Hamilton created an organization that evolved into the US Coast Guard.\nWhen his detractors threatened  to destroy the proposed US Constitution\, Hamilton wrote 51 of 85 supportive essays\,—known as the Federalist Papers—which helped convince the states to ratify the US Constitution.\nWhen he felt that he was being stifled and censored by his many enemies\, Hamilton helped start the New York Evening Post\, which still exists today as the New York Post.\n\nAlthough he played a major role as a Founding Father\, why was Alexander Hamilton’s impact minimized in most US History curriculum books?  In fact\, in 2015  the US Treasury Department planned to replace Hamilton’s image on the ten-dollar bill.  Why did they want to remove him and what made them change their decision?  How are these historical events related to D.A.R today? \nDiscover answers to these and other questions at Helena Reynolds’ Hamilton  D.A.R. workshop via Zoom at noon on Saturday\, March 6\, 2021 hosted by the Peter Puget Chapter\, NSDAR.   For additional information or to request a free link\, email helena@helenareynolds.net.

SUMMARY:SPECIAL GUEST STORIES: Mary Anne Hamilton\, widow of Alexander's great-great grandson\, Laurens Morgan Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:In 1965\, Mary Anne Clark was a struggling single mother of 5 when she met a big-talking\, cash-flashing politician in a WA DC cocktail lounge where she worked as a waitress.  Her manager told her that the man\, who walked with a cane\, was an heir to both JP Morgan and Alexander Hamilton.  She was not impressed so she blew him off….repeatedly. \nHear amazing stories of how 65 year-old Laurens Morgan Hamilton successfully wooed 31 year-old Mary Anne Clark; they were married from 1966 to 1978 when he passed away. \nOther stories may include Mary Anne’s subsequent successful career as a Realtor (her business card featured her picture in the middle of a ten dollar bill)\, her adventures around Washington DC (one of her connected friends unlocked several back doors enabling her to meet celebrities like Mother Teresa) and her generous contributions (some of the priceless family treasures have been distributed to appreciative historical organizations). \nNOTE: As of Saturday\, August 22\, 2020\, Rand Scholet\, Founder of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society (The AHA Society)\,  has been confirmed to host a special presentation on Mary Anne’s adventures\, many of which were sponsored by The AHA Society. \nPHOTO:  HAMILTON\, AN AMERICAN MUSICAL creator and star\, LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA invited MARY ANNE HAMILTON backstage after she saw the Broadway Production in April 2016.

SUMMARY:EVENT POSTPONED TBD ~ Hamilton: The Man\, the Musical\, & the Maestro who Made it Happen
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Event Postponed TBD:  How did Hamilton\, the Musical influence a major U.S. Treasury Department decision in 2015?  When and why was Founding Father Alexander Hamilton’s legacy “buried” and how was it “uncovered” over 200 years later? How did a fledgling new nation become a global super-power so quickly? Why was the nation’s capitol moved from New York to a swamp near the Potomac River? Find the answers to these and other intriguing questions during this exclusive workshop at Wesley in Des Moines\, Washington.  Presenter Helena Reynolds was Washington State’s first member of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society and has presented Hamilton workshops and discussion groups since 2016. SUMMARY:Leave a Legacy of Love Workshop
DESCRIPTION:If your family has wanted to create a Legacy Project but you aren’t sure how to get started\, come hear tips and suggestions that may help you begin this exciting process. \nSee  two examples of Legacy DVD’s that happen to be 40th Anniversary projects  and a 40 foot wide life-story-in-print photo essay. \nThe first is about Helena’s parents\, Juan and Juanita Ansotigue’s World War II 5-year pen-pal romance\, marriage and subsequent challenges. This project was created in 1990 for their milestone anniversary but was also shown for Juan’s Celebration of Life when he passed away in 1997. Legacy Projects produced in advance allow families to avoid the stress of last-minute productions while in the midst of grieving. \nThe second highlight DVD was produced by Dave and Helena’s son and daughter\, Jason and Jana Reynolds of their first 40 years\, including their baseball passion. Entitled “Rising to a Dream” Helena affectionately refers to it as “Rise of the Fastball Across the Plate.” \nAll ages are welcome\, especially families.  There is no charge but pre-registration is highly suggested by calling (253) 856-5164.
